| | | More bad press for Gulls! Just came across this: Highland News | News | Inverness tots in gull terror
Call me old fashioned (and you'd be right! ) but if kids had proper meals at set times, indoors, like we did when I was a child (eating in the street was a big no-no!) things like this would never happen!
In any case, the bird did NOT attack her child, it just stole his sandwich. Not, it would appear, just any sandwich, but an M&S sandwich!
If she sat them down at a table to eat properly instead of chucking 'em sarnies while she's out, the gull wouldn't have gone anywhere near her kids!
" And, Lindy-Ann revealed this is the third incident she has experienced of gulls stealing food from her in the same area.
“The first time it happened to me, in Eastgate, the bird landed on my head and stole a samosa I was eating,” she said."
You'd have thought she might have learned something by now, then!

| | | Re: More bad press for Gulls! Upsetting for the mother and child i expect but i think this is quite commonplace around the country, especially in seaside towns. In Plymouth town centre there are always Herring gulls hanging around looking for easy pickings, often encouraged by people feeding them scraps. Over in Looe they have signs on the seafront warning not to feed the gulls, as people have their ice creams and pasties literally snatched from out of their hands. Over time, the gulls have learned to snatch and grab. It's just a case of being aware when you're outdoors with food. |

In St Ives Cornwall this happens all the time we never eat in the street, one day on the beach a gull tried to run off with my sons sock. |

| | | Re: More bad press for Gulls! Gulls are intelligent enough to learn to steal food off other animals and birds (not just humans), but unfortunately that means many people will be calling for their numbers to be controlled.
If we had monkeys doing the same in this country many of the same people would probably be saying they should be left alone because they are cute.
