| | | Barn Owl It was a grey sky that greeted me when I got up this morning, not one of those days when there is a good reason to get out early. An extra cup of tea and a potter around the house, it was 9-30 turned before I got moving.
I gave the dog his run then as I was getting him back into the truck I saw a Barn Owl hunting the ditch heading towards me.
I grabbed my camera and sat and waited as she slowly came towards me.
She came within 10m of me, completely ignoring my vehicle then pounced into the rough grass and grabbed her breakfast. She sat in the grass eating her prize, unfortunately with her back to me then flew back the way she came.
Such lovely creatures. |

| | | Re: Barn Owl Wonderful, wonderful photos snake.
They are such beautiful birds.
I thought one or more might be out late this morning after the bad weather of the last few nights.
But I was a bit late leaving home and did ring you in the truck to see if I could join you. But you must have been back home already.
Thank you so much for sharing,
Cheers,
Bryan

| | | Re: Barn Owl Great photo's, showing a male bird.
I have noticed after the usual late summer/autumn increase in nocturnal behaviour my local birds have started to become more crepuscular/diurnal typically following bad weather on a night. Nice to see it making a catch (field vole) and hopefully the the snow will stay away this winter and give them a chance to catch up and recolonize some areas. |
