| | | Ravens back at Chester Cathedral Ravens nested for the first time on Chester cathedral for the first time in hundreds of years, back in 1994 after nesting for seven years on the trot, they suddenly disapeared, but to my delight I spotted as many as six on the building today, one pair looked as if they are searching out a site and seemed to pick the top of a gargoyle, I hope they will build a nest soon should know very soon as they start to bulld soon, probably January, |

| | | Re: Ravens back at Chester Cathedral I love that picture. I was wondering, In Angelsey Ravens go out in fives from the main body to reconnoiter a given area they then return to supposedly report their findings.
Does a similar thing happen in the Chester area?

| | | Re: Ravens back at Chester Cathedral Very few Ravens in Chester, and to see that many together was quite something for the middle of a busy city centre packed with Xmas shoppers, I am confident that they will nest on top of a Gargoyle about 80 ft up on the cathedral, They nested in Chester then Liverpool and their range is expanding, they could be birds that nested in Chester ten years ago, maybe even the same pair... they live a long time and pair up for life, but I am very happy to see them back after a decade, I missed their aerobatics and great noises they make...one of my favourite birds. |

| | | Re: Ravens back at Chester Cathedral Yeah! I love Ravens too. Maybe they are making a comeback. (We get more Ravens than Robins where I live -and we never see magpies) I am old enough to remember when rooks only lived in fields and never sponged from humans.
Their population declined drastically until they learned to scrounge. Now they ate all over the place.
Ravens used to like that in time gone by. The London ones are apparently a relic population. Maybe they will start to sponge on tips or something and come back in some form.

| | | Re: Ravens back at Chester Cathedral Theres a pair very close to me that I think nest near by to me in Runcorn I think on the local sand stone water tower, great when they start to display which they have been doing now and again last week or so and I have had one perched in tree in garden calling in the morning a few times in last few years. ravens are certainly becoming more common and I can normally see one locally most days either on one of pylons in large park land near by or on some local grazing land. | | | Re: Ravens back at Chester Cathedral Our Ravens must be a bit behind yours as they are not displaying yet. Mind, they have not had much chance. With winds up to 138mph -sustained 100mph- (a local record) hail, snow, torrential rain and thunder and lightening all sensible birds are tucked away in their little birdy beds. Last Thursday I saw a female Peregrine go past our picture window BACKWARDS. You don`t see that very often do you? I am told that we have some "bad weather" coming toward the end of the week. I can hardly wait.
