Barn owl shot on Suffolk reserve - info needed.

Fortunately a passer-by found the bird and it is recovering and should be released back to the reserve.

I would assume this is a one off incident from a moron rather than someone targeting the species as a means of predator control. Must be quite a heartless person to do such a thing. Even the hardened gamekeepers which I know in N.Yorks would not shoot an owl.

In 'my own backyard' - literally 10 minutes away.
Grrrrr ... so dammed annoying and frustrating when you think if only I had been walking down there on that day, I may have seen somebody with a gun and would have confronted them without hesitation.

This site is even popular with non-birding types who simply come to visit the Snape Maltings and decide to have a quiet walk down the riverside, so whoever it was was very lucky not to have been seen.

I would imagine it was some low life trying to shoot himself a wintering goose, failed to see any in range and out of frustration decided to fire at anything in sight.
