| | | Where can I see a Long Eared Owl in Yorkshire? Fairly new to all of this and am currently besotted with owls.
Spent a happy afternoon watching a pair of short eared owls at Tophill Low and wondered if anyone had any tips on where to go in the Yorkshire/Humber region to see long eared owls. |

Cheers,
Adam | None around at the moment just short eared. Long eared tend to be migrants around Bempton (Filey/Flamborough), with October being the best month to see them. This area does not really have the habitat to hold good numbers, despite historical records, numbers tend not to have been as high for the last 5 or so years. Birds did breed on a site local to the reserve several years ago. The plantations on the North York moors holds breeding/resident birds, Saltholme has a roost and goole supports breeding birds. I know several private sites in the vale of york too. Your best searching in either Feb-March for breeding birds or October for migrants. |

Owls have always fascinated ... and I see Barn Owls, Tawnies and Little Owls fairly frequently ... but the short eared reignited my interest ... thanks for the leads. |

Have a look on the RSPB website and give them a call (Its about a 10 minute run from the A1)
