Owls?

Just been outside to drop off three piles of peanuts on the pathway outside my flat. No noises at all.

However, later on the air will be filled with cooing and squarking, so audible that I can no longer sleep with the windows open. My reckoning is that whatever it is is in the trees 20 foot from my window and some more 'replying' up to 200 metres away, which would be from Sutton Park or the other side of the railway track. Are these likely to be owls, and if so is there anything else I can do specifically to help them during the cold snap?

I would imagine this time of the year they are rather noisy! I have that too outside the windows, they are tawny owls. Zillions of them.

Sounds like Tawny owls to me Boddie, they are getting very "vocal" round here as well, personally I love the sounds they make, but I appreciate if you are trying to sleep with the windows open it might be a touch noisey!

Getting to sleep does not bother me but some of the sounds are quite disturbing later on - typical horror movie stuff and they seem to induce nightmares, just prior to waking up to hear them. I guess they are no doubt just flirting with one another?
