| | | Advice on trip to Sheppey Me and Finch (and anyone else who wants to come!) are planning a trip to Sheppey on December 21st, was just wondering where should we go first? I've always been told Capel Fleet and the Raptor Viewpoint is a good place to start??
Thanks,

| | | Re: Advice on trip to Sheppey I would leave Elmley out if you want to see other places too. It's a very long walk and in my opinion there are better places on Sheppey. Shellness / Swale NNR is very good, as is the Capel Fleet and Raptor Watchpoint areas. The other watchpoint is by the Manor just east of Leysdown. Don't forget to seawatch from Shellness too.
Cheers,

The Capel Fleet Raptor mound is proving best mid afternoon onwards at present if you like Owls!. As the Short Eared Owls seem to turn up at sort of 2.30 pm onwards. Or at least that is their current hunting time there.
Today from just before 3 pm for nearly an hour saw 4 SOEs hunting that area.
Being chased by a Kestrel.
Then the SOEs chased a Marsh Harrier.
Then the SOEs chased each other, (sort of).
And a Merlin that seems to be there every day now sat and watched it all from an adjoining field.
Oh. If you are bringing Christmas presents down can I suggest you tell the field voles to open theirs straight away and not wait until Christmas Day.........
Cheers,
Bryan

| | | Re: Advice on trip to Sheppey Hi htcdude,
At this time of the year the places suggested will be the most productive.
The tide on the 21st Dec is around 8.30am, its alway interesting watching the waders fly in as the tide leaves the beach.
Harty is good for birds of prey with the viewing mound and slips being good places to watch.
If you have time get in touch and I will show you around my patch.
