| | Late migrant.(spotted redshank) Was at parkgate on Dee estuary to day for high tide and was very surprised to see a spotted redshank there today as would of expected them to have been well further south by now is this unusual for this time of year?
This bird was 1st spotted by me on its own well away from all other birds and haveing found it did get 2 other birders to confirm the ID wich they did so it was a spotted redshank. MIKE |

I'm never sure how to ID waders, so I reckon you did well.

Was found by me as no one else was even looking were it was and was about 20 birders there at one point was well away from every thing else though MIKE |

| | Re: Late migrant.(spotted redshank) Always a smart bird to see + mainly a passage bird, but small numbers are seen in the winter months. Nice find! |

MIKE | Spotted redshank do occasionally overwinter in the north west - there's one seen regularly at Leighton Moss at the moment. They seem to have favourite places, The Spinnies near Bangor in North Wales and Sunderland Point in Lancashire are two such places I regularly see wintering spot reds. Of course, it could simply be a late passage migrant rather than a wintering bird.
Cheers
