Dead Bird ID

Was rather suprised to see this dead wader in a basement in Fitzroy Square, London.

Is it a woodcock?

You are right Aaron it is a Woodcock. What a beautiful bird and what a pity you seen it dead. It seems an unusual place to find one they are normally seen in woodland. Nicola.

That is a Woodcock,
I wonder what it was doing there? It's a good chance to see the beautiful patterns on them, although it's a shame to see it dead.

Thanks for the confirmation. I guess it must have been on migration - it's certainly not woodcock habitat in that area!

Probably a window collision

There were a couple of Woodcock sightings in Regent's Park in last couple of days, so birds must be passing through London at the moment.
