| | | Re: Results of my Garden birdwatch As you know I haven't got a garden so I feed the birds every day at the edge of our local wood where I feed the foxes, I've got hanging feeders with seed, fat balls, fat blocks and peanuts, I also ground feed. Yesterday I sat watching for an hour and here's a list of what I saw.
7 male blackbirds
1 female blackbird
4 nuthatches
2 collared doves
11 woodpigeons
7 dunnocks
blue tits and long tailed tits ( so many I lost count )
3 robins
5 green finches
1 thrush
1 green woodpecker.
When I put the seed on the ground there's a blackbird who will sit at my feet and eat he doesn't seem at all afraid, I know it's the same one every day by a white spot he has on his back. |

| | | Re: Results of my Garden birdwatch Thankfully my main feeding station is about ten feet from where I park my car in the driveway so I used it as a hide. My garden Birdwatch took place between 08:55 & 09:55 today (Sunday).
The actual list I have submitted to the RSPB is as follows
Blackbird 15
Blue Tit 10
Crow 2
Chaffinch 3
Collared Dove 2
Dunnock 5
Goldfinch 5
Great Tit 2
Greenfinch 10
House Sparrow 7
Long tailed Tit 2
Magpie 2
Robin 6
Starling 1
Woodpigeon 2
Wren 1
Those were the highest counts at any given time but I also did an actual count of visits to the garden within that time and the results really kept me busy. So busy that at times I just couldn't count all the different birds so in fact my numbers were much higher than these. My counts were for that hour.
Robin 24
Blackbird 61
Great Tit 9
Blue Tit 109
Chaffinch 22
Greenfinch 67
Goldfinch 24
Wren 2
Collared Dove 6
Woodpigeon 12
Starling 3
Dunnock 23
Long tailed Tit 6
Sparrow 23
Magpie 7
Crow 2
We missed one regular as the Coal Tits that normally visit our feeders didn't arrive. Last year we also had a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Song Thrush but no sign of those either.
Still a very satisfying, and busy, hour.

| | | Re: Results of my Garden birdwatch Here are the results of my birdwatch between 9.25 - 10.25 this morning (Sunday):
Blackbird
Blue tit
Buzzard
Crow
Chaffinch
Coal tit
Great tit
Greenfinch
Green woodpecker
Magpie
Pheasant
Robin
Wood pigeon
The long-tailed tit and nuthatch appeared about an hour later, but there was no sign of the Great spotted woodpecker, wrens or jays today.
I have another question - I also saw a group of 3 birds which were very similar to greenfinches but I am fairly sure they were not. These birds were significantly larger, dull green all over with darker stripes above and below the eyes and yellow at the base of the tail. Does anyone have any idea what they might have been?
Thanks,
Jenny |

Regards | There are a pair of buzzards that live around here, although I have still not managed to get a decent photograph! This morning I saw one dive between the trees and about a dozen wood pigeons flew into the air. I guess that one of them was not so lucky!

Pretty typical for our very small garden, normally would see a few more Greenfinches and blackbirds, but the shock was the goldfinch, never before seen here. |

| | | Re: Results of my Garden birdwatch Helen The luck bit was because you live in such wonderful surroundings. Not that you didn't have to work at encouraging the birds and other wildlife you enjoy.
