| | | Isles of Harris/Lewis Hi,
Just booked a cottage on Lewis for the end of June, can anyone tell me of any birds (raptors in partcular) that I can expect to see while I am up there?
Thanks in advance

I work in Stornoway in the week and am down on the Uists at the weekends. You can see Eagles both varities and Buzzards, Merlins etc. If you are interested I have a spreadsheet of all the birds you can see in the Western Isles and it what month.
Have you been before, its a wonderful place where are you staying, if you are anywhere near Stornoway I will buy you a drink

The spreadsheet would be fantastic. My wife and I are staying in Stornoway in the last week of June.
In addition to lots of birds and walking, we are really looking forward to the long daylight hours which we will hopefully get up there.
If you are free during that week, we could maybe meet up one night for a drink
Many thanks,

| | | Re: Isles of Harris/Lewis Be sure to take earplugs with you. We spent 2 weeks on Lewis some years ago and the corncrake crex crexing outside the bedroom window in the early hours became somewhat irritating after a few days. While it was one bird that we were hoping of seeing, it is possible to have too much of a good thing! |

I have heard this too .... a rare and much sought after bird for most of us but high in the annoyance stakes for locals if you hear it going on and on and on .....

Not seen (or heard) a Corncrake before so at least it will be somethng new.
We are planning to make the most of the long daylight hours so I reckon we will be too tired to hear much anyway.
Thanks for the replies.
