I am lucky my Friend stays up in Scalloway, but prefer to go up in summer not a good traveller on the ferry. |

There are lots of Short-eared owls around the country at the moment, not just in Shetland. East Anglia in particular has a lot. I have been out to the Nene Washes twice and seen 4 flying together and Wicken Fen has over 10 flying most evenings. Short-eared owls are incredible birds, I never tire of watching them. |

It was incredible. They are possibly the most impressive birds I have ever seen and to see over 10 flying together in the same area is just amazing. They are so big and beautiful and at Wicken Fen you get excellent views of them. |

That must have been a quite incredible sight. I think 4 is the maximum I've seen at the same site. |

Before I went to Wicken Fen to see these large gatherings 4 was the most I had seen at once. But they regularly have over 10 flying over the same complex of fields every evening. Other sites in the area have quite a lot too, the Nene Washes for example. Though as others have been saying on these forums this is a very good year for them. | | |
