Could you please tell me what this bird is in the middle of the picture. I know the rest are BHG`s but this one looks different. It seemed much larger than the BHG`s and the wings are obviously different. It looks lapwingish to me but the head and beak seem too long.

I agree with you that the bill and head look wrong. Where was it taken? And was it near coast or fields?
EDIT: Zoomed it the head looks very duck-like, but doesn't fit with the rest of the body

It looks like it thinks it's a BHG. How about juvenile Herring Gull, or similar?

Hi, it was taken Pennington Flash Country Park in Leigh. It's not near the coast but is surrounded by fields.

I think it's a duck - at a guess a female mallard. The wings look right, and it looks like it has webbed feet - and the bill looks right too. |

In the distant pic my first thought was Bittern ,on the close up one though i'm more inclined to go with a mallard or cormorant. |
