| | | Keep spilling bird feed? I just got fed up with cramming my bird food bags into a kitchen cupboard, and regularly spilling the stuff dragging the bags out, or putting them back.
I am an RSPB member and checked their shop, but I thought £40.90 for two (very nice looking bird) feed containers and a handy shovel thing to get the seed into the feeders was a bit much. For a total of just 8.5 litres of storage .
So I invested £10.70 at Tescos for 3 x 6.5 litre plastic boxes, a 3.5 litre container and 2 measuring jugs to fill up the feeders with. A total of 23 litres of storage!
And made a nice clear space right next to the kitchen door to store it all. , (tidiest place in my kitchen now. But the rest of the kitchen is due for a heavy clean as Sunnydale is due down soon ).
Here you go:
Still use the cupboards for the overflow, but shan't need to drag the bags out anywhere near so often now.
Wonder what methods of storage others here use?
Cheers,
Bryan

| | | Re: Keep spilling bird feed? Looks good Bryan! Very neat.
I have an outdoor storage bin which fits a sunflower heart sack with room to spare. It's watertight, but the bin then goes under a table, in case. Don't remember how much that cost. Its plastic, so not much. That was my only real purchase - apart from the seeds/feeds themselves.
Then other feeds are bunged in, on top, in bags.
The scoop is an old, tall, round plastic ice-cream carton. I have two funnels, one from the pound shop (widened and filed smooth) and one that is a weird shaped piece of plastic found in a clear out that the OH said "do you want this for your birds"? That funnel never clogs. I has a wide opening. Excellent piece of kit.
If I had money to waste (which I do not) then I'd replace the whole filling brigade with something like one of these: Backyard Landscaping Garden Shop | Backyard Landscaping Garden ShopDroll Yankees Seed Scoop - Light Blue | Birds | | Backyard Landscaping Garden Shop

I cut the bottom off a plastic drinks bottle and use this to fill a 6pt washed milk bottle to fill my feeders this acts as a storage bottle as well. |

| | | Re: Keep spilling bird feed? I store seeds in a metal bin in the shed. I use a cut down water bottle as a funnel and fill a couple of 4 litre plastic milk bottles and keep them in the house. The tops of the milk bottles are small enough allow the seed to be poured directly into the feeders.
