| | | Identification: A Mallard?
Well I looked in my books and couldn't find a match. I spotted it at Combe Abbey near Coventry. It was about 15ft away from a very nice Egyptian Goose. So any idea's? |

| | | Re: Identification: A Mallard? Looks like a Cayuga drake. Cayugas are a domestic breed and therefore a type of mallard.

| | | Re: Identification: A Mallard? Thanks Jan I just found the site and I think I will find it very useful. I've recently got in bird watching and nature in general. I do a lot of walking and it's much better when you know what you are looking at.

Cayugas and Black East Indian Ducks are two domestic breeds of Mallard which are pretty much identical in plumage and shape, but Cayugas are a large breed (about 4x the size of Black East Indian). It looks like it is a fairly bulky bird - but it can be difficult to judge without some thing to compare with.

It was around the same size as the other normal ducks it was swimming with, maybe a little more bulk but not much. It really stood out though.
I turned the corner and a Egyptian Goose was walking along on the grass, never seen one of those before either, they look evil with the black eye rings lol. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
