Barn owl fledgling

Despite it being November, our resident Barn Owls have been nesting and yesterday we saw the two adults and one youngster flying around. They are not having any trouble finding food so, hopefully, they will all get through the winter.

The mild Autumn is probably doing them a lot of favours.

Is this their second brood?

How many young do they have?

I have only seen one baby but I believe there may be more. I will watch the nest tonight but unless I see them all together it is difficult to know how many there are.

I am not sure if the parents have had a brood before. We have two owl boxes; one has had barn owls in for some years and the other one, on the Essex Barn, has only housed pigeons before. However, this year Barn Owls have ousted the pigeons and moved in but I am not sure if they are the ones from the original box who had a brood earlier in the year.

The most frustrating thing is that the barn owl box has a webcam and for the last three years it has been showing wonderful pictures of nesting pigeons but now the owls are in there it has given up the ghost! That's life!
