unidentified bird

a bird i have never seen before or can find no reference of amongst british birds, flew into my garden a few days ago. ever since, i have tried to find out what it is, but to no avail and no it wasn't a jay!
it was a bit smaller than a pigeon, but stockier and biege all over, apart from the tips of the wings and i repeat, the tips, which where one feather blue, the middle feather black and another blue. it's beak was black and finch like in shape and proportion.
is there anyone out there that knows what it is?
could it be possible that it's foriegn to these shores and confused by climate change?
