| | | gulls Haveing often found ID'in gulls a pain some times was a bit surprised to day to find how easy it was to pick out a adult mediterranean gull in with a group of Black headed gulls on a huge mere 53 acers its just stood out like a beacon looking a lot lighter than BHG's will admit I was put on to it by some one else do adult meds always stand out like that in with BHG's?
Mind was one bird on lake that made think was a grebe far to far out for me to ID with 10+25 bins I had with me in poor light smaller than great crested grebe about size of coots it was with all i could make out was it was a grebe with the 1000+ coots on lake MIKE |

| | | Re: gulls Did it have it's black hood? I'm not sure I could pick one out of a bunch of winter plumage birds, although I've not seen a winter plumaged Med Gull yet. But in the summer ones you see how jet black the Med Gull's head is compared to the 'black' head of a Black-headed Gull, sticks out like a sore thumb

Nige | Had very good look at this bird has it was close thought it stood out in BHG's lighter gray back and lack of black in wings realy stood out if you ever see one in winter plumage will see what I mean fight looked different as well and thicker bill than BHG MIKE
Was only a small group of BHG's 6 basicly waiting for feeding coots to surface in order to steal food from them saw it in flight and on the water | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
