| | | Birds and fireworks... Do they mix?
Well farmers use scarers to disturb the birds during the day , but come firework night , do fireworks disrupt our feathered friends?
All the banging and all...?

| | | Re: Birds and fireworks... It is bound to have an effect but the birds always come back.
We have a local bonfire and fireworks around a lake and I am always concerned about the welfare of the birds. The lake has quite a large population of birds for its size and I went on Saturday morning (after display) and all was back to normal. I think the birds changed their roosting for the night and headed to the woods.
It is a concern but I would rather have one organised display than fires and fireworks everywhere going on for weeks. |

| | | Re: Birds and fireworks... I'd hate to be a bird migrating overnight on Diwali/Bonfire Night. I guess it doesn't have too much of an effect as we don't see loads of dead birds everywhere the following morning.

| | | Re: Birds and fireworks... Last year I witnessed the results of a huge firework display on the night roosting waders and other birds in the Kent estuary at the north east corner of Morecambe Bay. Total disturbance. |

| | | Re: Birds and fireworks... This year we had Tawny Owls moving back into the area, along with a little owl. The fireworks went on until 1:30 saturday and until midnight last night,
so I dont expect tp hear them again.
I wonder what right someone half a mile to a mile away has to force his noise on me?

| | Re: Birds and fireworks... It isn't just birds I worry about every year on Bon fire night. It's all the wildlife and domestic pets which cower in the corner frightened. Also, all the articles of animal cruelty associated with fireworks like I think it was last year some idiot tied a terrapin turtle to a firework.
Perhaps fireworks should be only granted to proper displays or banned all together...

| | | Re: Birds and fireworks... I am not against fireworks, it was all about colours and light but now it is all about sheer explosive noise and concussion!
The shops around me were full of huge fireworks, nearly all made in China.
I would prefer that they were not sold until a couple of days before the 5th
and no more sold or produced until the following year private displays even at home should require a license!

| | | Re: Birds and fireworks... I agree entirely, nightshade.
It beggars belief that a device with the explosive power to wreck a phone box can be purchased freely over the counter and that some completely selfish and antisocial individuals set these things off to cause deliberate disturbance and damage.
It's not just Nov 5th up here, weddings and other events let the things off late at night to the annoyance of many. |

| | | Re: Birds and fireworks... You should try living here during Diwali...it's chaos, like world war 3 has started. We're 2mins from Southall which is populated with a very high percentage of Asians who celebrate by competing with who has the biggest and loudest fireworks, and they usually go on most of the night.

Nige | Im not quite as close to Southall as you, but I certainly see + especially hear more firworks now around Diwali than I do for Guy Fawkes. Mind you there's still a handful going off every evening atm. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
