| | | Making my own suet blocks Does anyone know where to obtain the plastic containers/moulds that suet blocks are supplied in?
Last year I frequently made my own bird food by melting Atora suet, adding wild bird food seeds, etc and leaving it to set, then putting it out for the birds in the usual wire frame bird feeder.
However, I now can't find the old suet block containers that I used as moulds. I could buy some ready made suet blocks and get a few that way, but I'd rather just buy the containers/moulds.
Any ideas please on where to get some?
Thanks |

How can we make 'floaters' for our stews?

| | | Re: Making my own suet blocks I have made my own suet blocks last winter by melting lard and adding all sorts of bird foods to it and letting it set in a tupperware container.
Once set I store the block in the spare fridge in our garage and slice pieces off no thicker than the suet block holder.
Then hey-presto hang them off the trees in the garden. I'm not sure of the value inmaking your own mind ? I went to wilkinsons yesterday and they were selling 3 blocks for £2. A bargain I thought. Gardman Suet Feast for Wild Birds Berry | Wild Bird Food | | Wild Bird from Wilkinson Plus |

| | | Re: Making my own suet blocks Three blocks for £2 certainly sounds like a good price. I guess they work out at 60-odd pence each when I make my own.
Thanks for the suggestion re the tupperware. |

Colin | Pick up car keys-Get in car-Drive to supermarket (not forgetting money)
Freezer aisle-"Aunt Bessies Dumplings"-Pay at checkout-Backto car-Back home-Put keys where kept-Put dumplings on tray-Place in oven 20 mins or add to stew.-FAILING THAT use Cold BUTTER Grated.Instead of suet...aDm...

| | | Re: Making my own suet blocks Robin-
here's a photo of some suet blocks I made back in the summer... if you've got the usual square suet feeder, I've found that margarine tubs make a good mould. Even though they're not square, they are the right width... you just have to be careful not to pour it too thick.
The large Tupperware container in the photo is a perfect fit, though. |
