| | | Glossy Ibis Hi,
just wanted to share this, taken in Kent earlier.
My wife first spotted it last weekend, we didn't know what it was and went back to the same place today.
An experienced birder confirmed the ID |

| | | Re: Glossy Ibis Nice sighting. I've seen many overseas but still haven't caught up with one in the UK yet.
In recent autumns there have been small influxes of this bird- many of which are juveniles. Most of those birds that have been ringed come from the relatively recent Spanish population which is still expanding.
A lot of long legged water birds do seem to becoming more common here as they spread north such as Spoonbill (8 pairs successfully bred in Norfolk this year), c1,000 pairs of Little Egrets now, regular Great White Egret (yet to breed here, but surely soon?}, Cattle Egret (which did breed for at least 2 years) + of course the return of Cranes. The latter species does of course regularly breeds much farther north in the Baltics + Scandinavia.
I would have thought Glossy Ibis a possible breeding candidate in the next couple of decades. |
