Try googling the above mentioned birds, and looking for any videos of them, it could spark off something for you.

i think i have it sussed i reckon it was higher than i thought therefore bigger than i thought and that it was a green woodpecker i startled one today and as it flew over my head it had the shape of the bird i saw. thanks for all your replys

Did it call as it flew? Their call is very distinctive.
