Hi,
can anyone confirm this ID please, the bird was quite happy to remain almost perfectly still for 2 hours before dusk, as the light faded (and photo opportunity), it became more active...    |

Going on bill size, I would say Common Snipe.

The bill looks a bit long for Jack Snipe, and it looks like it has a pale central stripe (1st picture) on the crown, which would make it a Snipe. But I'd wait for a more knowledgeable reply

Yes it’s a Common Snipe Gallinago gallinago
They are easy to tell apart if you can get a reasonable view if the top of the head, Common Snipe has very obvious stripe down the centre of its head while Jack Snipe Lymnocryptes minimus lacks this stripe. You can see this quite clearly in your first photo.
