| | | A good day for a change. The wife and I went for a walk to a place called Pembrey Country Park, nothing there really exept a huge conifer forestry and a 7 mile long beach.
We could here a small flock of birds chattering, but it took us a while to find them. When we found them I wasn't sure what they were untill I got home, they were Siskins, a first for me and I managed a few half decent shots as well.
Next we saw a Green Woodpecker, the last time I saw one was when I was a kid, unfortunatly no photograph. Saw lots of the more common birds so we both enjoyed.
As we neared the car to go home there was a rumpas goin on in some nearby trees so of I went to have a look. I could see a few Magpies mobbing another 2 birds and even with my bins I could not ID the 2 birds. I decided to try and get closer. I got a bit closer but they flew off, and then out of the corner of my eye I saw Greater Spotted Woodpecker and again managed a few half decent shots.
The 2 birds I saw are in the unidentified gallery. If they are what I think they are I will more than well chuffed.
May not seem like a special day to some but it is one of the best days I have had for a long time.

Does sound like a splendid day, any day you find Siskin can't be a bad one in my book.
I supposed Magpies might mob Greater Peckers, since the latter does have a tendency to raid nests. There again, you could just as easily imagine it being the other way around. Tit for tat, perhaps? |

I have only had a quick look and I think its a Mistle Thrush.
Nightjars are not hear for a couple of months yet and you wouldn't see them in a tree by daylight.
Glad you had a good day at last.

I agree with John it's a Mistle Thrush with those cold greyish-brown tones, no yellowish colour on breast + more rounded spots. Size is not really apparent in photo. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
