| | | Eastern Crowned Warbler A mega for the UK and Herts today, an Eastern Crowned Warbler was trapped and ringed at a reservoir near Watford.
Only the second UK record for this species.
Also Great Grey Shrike, Hen Harrier and Crossbills in the North of the county so a good day all round.

| | | Re: Eastern Crowned Warbler And causing a lot of controversy amongst a lot of twitchers- but not over it's ID. A couple of good photos on the Herts bird club pages.
Not seen since it was released after ringing, but guess quite a few will look in the area tomorrow. |

| | | Re: Eastern Crowned Warbler Normally you have to be a member of HMWT to get access. Can't wait to read what Lee (G. R.) has to say.

He has no more right to expect to be allowed onto private land than anyone else. If it's granted then he and all else should be grateful.

| | | Re: Eastern Crowned Warbler Sorry to take your thread slightly off topic Robin, but do you or does anyone know what all the talk of eggers and this reservoir is all about? PM if it's that sensitive.
The area where the ECW was caught can be viewed fom the perimeter. I like Lee (sorry folks, but I really do) but I sense that he is holding a bit of a grudge and becoming too obsessed and taking this far too seriously.
Not sure about the background here. But it might be that he would have done well to have got more involved with the conservation side of his hobby. HMWT does some smashing work and membership is very worthwhile, in my opinion. Key access would have been no problem then.
As for keeping things secret. Surely in this case it was entirely justified. Banging on about raising funds? Sounds like a rant was setting in. There are at least two reasons given for keeping people out of that site. And I'm not entirely sure that some of the authorities weren't more than accommodating anyway. Time to take a step back from the brink of the obsession abyss I think.

| | | Re: Eastern Crowned Warbler There is a species of water bird that is alluded to which I won't name as obviously people don't want it named, though I suspect many London birders are aware of its significance. |
