Roosting Box Question

We've had a little building project over the past few weeks- making a roosting box for the sparrows, (and birds smaller than them- don't know, will they share if the weather is bad?)

We didn't follow any plans- looked at examples online, and constructed it from bits of boards left over after we cut up an old pallet to make a frog hibernation shelter. Some of the instructions said to drill holes for drainage, although this might have been relating to nesting rather than roosting boxes, because one website said to cover the drainage holes in the winter, to help keep the box warm.

So my question is, should I just leave off drilling drainage holes until we give it its Spring clean next year?

Thanks for that! I just hope the birds like it, too.

Hopefully someone will know, because we'd like to get it up soon, so that they get accustomed to it... I need to make sure it's cat-proof, too.
