| | | Night bird? In the middle of the night there was a very loud Yip....Yip....Yip sound which I thought was either a fox or a bird of prey. By the time I got downstairs it had moved off to behind the houses so i didn't see it. I have listened to all the audios I can think of, I couldn't find any fox sound like this, it was nearest to some of the sparrow hawk sounds but would they be out at night.
There are tawny owls and barn owls in the area but it didn't match any audios I could find, any ideas?

| | | Re: Night bird? I can hear that call in my mind's ear and would say that it would be a Tawny Owl.
Have you had a trawl through the calls on Xeno Canto? http://www.xeno-canto.org/browse.php...ix+aluco%29+56

| | | Re: Night bird? Could be Little Owl, but much more likely in the middle of the night to be Tawny Owl yipping away.
Cheers

| | | Re: Night bird? Probably a Tawny then, I don't know of any Little owls around hear but will go and listen to the audio to find out what they sound like.
