| | | Re: bird sound It's very difficult to make suggestions based on your brief description.
Water Rails do give quite a wide variety of calls though so that might be a reasonable bet.

| | | Re: bird sound Have been listening to a few bird sounds on RSPB site and others of both birds we saw at the site and of others likely to be found in that habitat and some that have been seen there of late, a large bend in river weaver navigation just befor it enters ship canal and mersey, reed beds and mud banks on farside with a small island half reed bed half mud bank have got a few more to listen to no now its not a water rail, pretty sure its a wader now MIKE |

| | | Re: bird sound Its unlikely a gropper would be reeling at this time of year, plus most have left now.
A wader in a reed bed narrows it down as most waders prefer open areas. Can you give a more clear description?
Have you checked Jack Snipe? |

Sounded like whirling whistle med high pitch not as low very as jack snipe in short bursts like cricket sound dubbed to tv shows loud we was about 40mts away may not have been coming form reeds as was mud bank on back of island a lot of it out of view from us did see a wader we flushed from side we were on go down over there which we did not ID, we had this down to may be three had dark pointed wings no white showing, lot of white round rump pale underside few fast low to water did not call in flight redshank size maybe bit bigger,
hope this may be of some help have found notes I made now
Thanks MIKE |
