| | | Re: Kingfishers in Essex Not Essex, but the Kingfishers at the Rye Meads Reaserve, (not far from Essex), have been very active this year. The RSPB: Rye Meads
Suggest you contact Louise who runs the blog there and ask her if the Kingfishers that can be seen from the Kingfisher Hide are still active there at present. She is very helpful and tries to keep a close watch on what is going on in the Reserve.
Don't bother with the other hide that overlooks a sandbank as that is too far away for photography.
Cheers,
Bryan

| | | Re: Kingfishers in Essex Kingfishers can still be seen at Rye Meads but are not likely to be in front of the Kingfisher hide at this time of year (they don't tend to feed in front of this hide at anytime, even when breeding there).
Kingfishers are widespread in Essex, and in all liklihood you will find that they are present regularly on a stream or lake near you - learn the call, which will help you to spot them, and thenby learning their habits you may be able to create your own photographic opportunities (stay away from any nests if you think you have located them in the spring and summer though, as they are easily disturbed when breeding and legally protected).
