It'll be a while yet before they come feeding in my garden, they don’t usually venture in until the first real cold snaps, same with the Fieldfares. |

Same with goldcrests. Goldfinches are also becoming difficult to hear now as well. This is a result of often shooting pistols without ear defenders when I was younger, but any load noise can have the effect. It's said that if a noise causes pain in the ears, then _permanent_ damage has been caused. The insidious thing is that the damage is not noticeable until much later in life.
A lot of youngsters listening to loud music will have hearing damage that will cause hearing loss later in life.

Jim | I have it too, really just become noticeable in the last year. I go to a lot of gigs and music festivals which must have done it, also I was never one for keeping my ipod down low so that hasn't helped. My hearing is still pretty good just I have a faint whine in my ears all the time. |

PS. Are these record falls another sign of a hard winter to come? |

| | | Re: are records been broken on fieldfare/redwing counts landing today ? First Redwing I saw this year was two days ago, in our garden pond having a bath. Never seen any of the resident blackbirds/thrushes in it though. Also about 40 Starlings in there today, splashing about having a great time. More Redwings flying over since then, plus quite a few Fieldfares. |
