| | | Night Heron in Garden Im not that clued up on how rare certain species are so im hoping some one can help. At work today a woman told me her neighbour had a strange Heron in the garden this morning in my home town. I quizzed her a bit and thought it would just be a first Winter Grey Heron or a scruffy one. Any way she told me he had photos so my curiosity got the better of me so I went to his house tonight. This house is close to a large river but in a built up area and i couldnt believe my eyes when he showed me a dozen photos of a Night Heron sitting on his fence. He said it was there at first light and stayed three hours. I know this is unusual, but are they rare for the UK? Gutted I missed it

| | | Re: Night Heron in Garden We get several in this country every year. Usually juveniles. There's been one down in Dorset recently. Pretty rare here, but seems to be increasing in frequency of occurrence.

| | | Re: Night Heron in Garden There have been a few spotted in the Glasgow area lately and apparently the small free flying population living in and around Edinburgh Zoo is still holding on. |
