Binoculars...

So today I visited a recently opened rspb reserve on the Wirral. It's not often i have the time to go somewhere just to watch birds, and I had a great day, the reserve is lovely.

However, I realised that I really need some new binoculars!! Mine just aren't good enough! So I was hoping someone might be able to advise me as to what I should be looking for when shopping around for some!

I can't afford anything too expensive, and I don't really know what I'm looking for or where I should shop!

Try a RSPB site with an optics shop (look on their website for details of on site shops etc) . They have a great selection at all budgets and you can test then at a reserve rather than a shopping center

You can get an idea of what they stock at their online shop - at the top of the page hover over shop then click Binoculars in the drop down menu.

The 10x50 'Bresser' binoculars that Lidl an Aldi often sell have received very good reports. They're also remarkable value at around £12.

Think they've done a really lovely job with it, and I am actually hoping to go do some volunteering with them...hopefully will help me improve my id skills, which are a bit rubbish at the moment!!

Check out as many as you can and buy the best you can afford.
Shopping around the web you'll find some surprising deals. 8 x 40's seem to be the favorite among most folk for wild life watching..
