| | | Little Owl and Tawny Owl Hi, I am lucky enough to have both Tawny Owl and Little Owl in and around my garden. Are they territorial, I.e. Any chance of them both nesting close to each other. Would the Tawny be a threat to the Little Owl?
Thanks |

| | | Re: Little Owl and Tawny Owl They are both territorial and the Littles will mob the Tawnys. Tawnys have been known to take young Littles to feed to their young.

| | | Re: Little Owl and Tawny Owl On my local patch this indeed does happen nearly every year, my patch is not that large either, most every year there are, one pair of tawny owls, one pair of little owls, one pair of kestrels, one pair of buzzard, and two pairs of sparrowhawks. Two years ago the kestrel chose a hole in one particular tree, the following year the little owl nested in the same hole. All these species nests here despite the mobbing that happens between the different species. It seems in some cases they just learn to tolerate each other, here anyway. |
