| | | Re: Good News....Mostly But the not so good news from the RSPB today: The RSPB: Media: Corncrake populations are on the rise
" The population of one of Scotland’s rarest birds has increased- however its future hangs in the balance as Scottish ministers consider massive cuts to agri-environment schemes that provide vital wildlife support payments to Scottish farmers and crofters.
...the wildlife conservation charity warns that the species’ fortunes will dramatically reverse if the proposed cuts, outlined in the recent Scottish Spending Review, are approved."
If the cuts happen, not only will the Corncrakes and the other wildlife that benefits from the habitat decrease or disappear, so too will many of the visitors who go to the Islands to enjoy them... and thus a goodly chunk of the local economy along with them.
