| | | Re: Razorbill mistaken for Penguin in The Solent It is kind of understandable. The average member of the public will have seen numerous pictures of penguins but most won't even have heard of auks (except Puffins, which they won't know are auks).
I do wonder who the "experts" that are quoted in stories like this are though - the obvious answer would have been that it was most likely a Razorbill or Guillemot, and that if it was a penguin it had been released from a collection.
What would the people watching have thought if their approach had resulted in it flying off!

| | | Re: Razorbill mistaken for Penguin in The Solent One thing to bear in mind is The Sun and other 'journalists' (I use the word loosely) are legally allowed to write pretty much anything and attribute the quote to someone (theres not proof they didnt say it...)
What I reckon happened here is the Amazon world zoo spokesman said "It certainly looks like a penguin but razorbill breed on the rocky coast on the IOW and swim in a similar way." The 'journalist' has thought thats not a story and shortened the quote yo make it one. I've heard of this happen before to palaeontologists for documentries where they have explained an out of date theory only to have it edited to make it look like they follow the out of date theory! |
