| | | One for Jeff H perhaps? Jeff do you or any one else for that matter know how much fish per day a Kingfisher needs to sustain its self? At a guess Id say a dozen avg sized fish, but like I said that is a guess.

Kingfishers need to consume roughly their own bodyweight in fish/other prey each day, ie. about 38 - 40 gms.
In terms of numbers of fish I guess it depends what you mean by "avg sized" and they can, of course, cope with fish of various sizes - as these photos demonstrate:-
Small -
Medium -
or Large!
I hope this answers your question satisfactorily

The dorsal fin is set quite far back, if you look at the pelvic fins (bottom in the middle) the front of the dorsal fin is set behind the front of the pelic fin. In roach they are about even. The eye of a rudd is much larger and more golden with less red than a roach. The fins are a much richer blood red colour they are more of a washed out yellow/red in roach. This is quite a young fish as they age they get a deeper profile, more golden colour and more red in the dorsal fin, such an amazing photo. |
