| | | How is the berry crop in your region? I was pretty excited to hear the other day (not sure if its true) that the Northern half of Scandanavia was covered in Snow. After I heard this I began to look at the Rowan trees in my area and the crop this year is a disaster. Probably down to the Summer we have had and the high winds. Pretty gutted that I wont get the Waxwings this year, is it the same all over the UK or is this failed crop just regional?

| | | Re: How is the berry crop in your region? In common with most I've seen locally, the Rowans just outside my garden have a pretty poor berry crop this year, and have mostly been eaten by Starlings already.
The red-berried Rowan in my garden has quite a bit of fruit, but not as good as previous years. The yellow-berried Rowan in my garden also has a lot of fruit which is slowly being eaten by a small family group of Bullfinches.
I only expect to see Waxwings in large numbers on roughly one year out of three, it really depends on how the food supply in Scandinavia does.
I've just seen we're forecast snow for Wednesday/Thursday, it looked like there would be snow in some of Scandinavia as well.
Regards, Audrey.

| | | Re: How is the berry crop in your region? Everything round here seems to be loaded. This is the whitebeam on the roadverge outside - usually the birds have stripped the berries by the time they turn orange, but not this year!

| | | Re: How is the berry crop in your region? Down here in Kent it's an amazingly good year for berries. Everywhere you go the trees and bushes are laden down with red and orange berries. You can't miss seeing them. You can practically hear the birds licking their lips. |
