| | | Pekin or Aylsebury ducks? Spotted these very photogenic ducks on our local pond this morning. They're new arrivals and I wondered what type they are. The closest I can get is either Pekin or Aylesbury. They are larger than mallards.
Any help appreciated! |

| | | Re: Pekin or Aylsebury ducks? I'm not convinced that these are either breed (although the pink bill of the right bird is a feature shown by Aylesbury, if I remember correctly). They may be another breed (like white Campbells), or a mix of different breeds.
Technically it is incorrect to say that they are larger than Mallards - whatever breed they might be, they are still Mallards.

| | | Re: Pekin or Aylsebury ducks? Roy, thanks. The different colour bills had/has me puzzled as well. I'll put them down as hybrids! I'm not very familair with duck breeding but I take it from what you say that they are all originally bred from mallards. Anyway it was nice to see them |

| | | Re: Pekin or Aylsebury ducks? Yes, domestic duck breeds have been bred from Mallards (the exception being Muscovy Ducks).
Pure bred Peking and Aylsebury Ducks have quite distinctive shapes, though this is less obvious when they are on the water.
Nice photo by the way.
