could anyone identify both these birds....they was having a proper dogfight

i think they are sparrowhawk and rook

The BOP looks like a kestrel to me.

Agree upper bird is a Kestrel.

No definitely not Sparrowhawk, and the lower bird also looks like a Kestrel (though rather dark for some reason).

Are we looking at the same picture?

The lower bird is a corvid, its black, has a rather larger bill, is a completely different structure in the wing, I suspect its a rook. Agree the top bird is a kestrel.

Or is it my monitor.....

The bottom bird is a corvid I agree, the bird is black, the light makes the wings and tail feathers appear a lot paler. I won't try and guess at what it is though
