Sanderling?

I saw this solitary wader on the beach at Filey, yesterday, viewed from the promenade. It wasn't very close, hence the poor picture quality. The most striking part, as I was viewing from above, was the very distinct pattern on the back. Its legs were black (difficult to see from above and especially when it was "walking" - they were a blur).

My references say Sanderling. Correct?

PS - spectacular fishing by Gannets in the bay. Of course, I'd forgotten my binoculars.

Yes the gannets are very impressive at the moment. They dont often come this far in. There is a lot of feed in the bay at the moment.

Point of interest: There are a lot of Mackerel in the area right now which attract not only the Gannets but also Porpoise and other marine predators.

September to late October is a good time for coast watching off Filey Brigg and Flamborough Head.
