| | | birds habitat v windfarms. i went to a meeting last night, to express my concerns over the planned extension of more windfarms on scout moor. told the speaker i was representing the birds as they couldnt , anyway when i asked about the non existance of birds on the moor, he told me that they had people monitoring the situation, so i asked how long before we get some data, his reply was it takes 3 years, so i put it to him they had been up 3 years now so can he get me some info, also i asked who did the survey , before they built the ones up there now, couldnt give me a straight answer, just somebody. it used to be thriving with wildlife , but not no more, he asked me was i a member of any birding group , i replied no im independant, but care for our countryside and habitat for the birds, any way there will be another meeting in time so ill return to see if he gets some data for me, concerned. forgot to mention the company PEEL HOLDINGS and they seem to have their fingers in a lot of pies. rossy. |

| | | Re: birds habitat v windfarms. Do you have or know of anyone who has done pre-development bird surveys? Do you have evidence of species that used the moor that are no-longer there? I am assuming its the actual habitat change rather than the turbines which have altered the bird assemblages? If you have this kind of infomation it may give you a bit more clout although its hard for me to say without knowing the case. I have been involved in a lot of wind farm applications it seems to be waders in particular that suffer on moorland. Although the overall number of breeding waders is in decline on moorland in Britain as it is. Any schedule 1 species up there? |

| | | Re: birds habitat v wind farms. Near to me in Cheshire there are plans for a wind farm on frodsham marshes also by Peel holdings which looks Like it will get the go ahead, even though this marsh is an important site for waders all though winter as well as those that breed there the RSPB did at 1st object to this, but are no longer as Peel holdings have said they will reduce No's of turbines and build some sort of scape.
What I think will happen is they will build the ones they get permission for and when the birds go away, get the go ahead for the rest.
Peel holdings have also just been given the go ahead for an incinerator on the near by Ince marshes I can not under stand why either of these are getting the green light as both these marshes are not to far from were marsh Harriers have nested for 1st time. madness
A look at Cheshire and wiral bird sightings on bird forum shows how important frodsham is for birds. MIKE |

| | | Re: birds habitat v windfarms. The Frodsham Marshes have a long history of wildfowling. Whatever your stance on this subject, you might find support and data from this sector. An approach to BASC for example, could discover others involvement in protecting this area. |

| | | Re: birds habitat v windfarms. Frodsham marshes has been iconic amongst birdwatchers in cheshire for well over half a century it would be an absolute travesty if this area was to be killed off
PEEL HOLDINGS need to be brought in line

| | | Re: birds habitat v windfarms. Peel Holdings do have fingers in many pies as you say rossy, I've had a look at their proposals here... Ecology and ornithology
and RSK's supplementary bird survey here.... http://www.peelenergy.co.uk/images/s...y%20survey.pdf
I note that Cheshire and Wirral Ornithological Society data has been used.

| | | Re: birds habitat v wind farms. Having had a look though survey report for frodsham marsh wind farm it seems to biased to wards what peel holdings would want to see for the reasons below.
I noted surveys were all done in winter and therefor only looked at in pact on birds using the marsh for roosting during high tides in the Mersey estuary, it also did not include a no of bird species that are regular at this site.
No mention is made to possible in pact on the breeding lapwings that nest in the mane on the Meadows were the east turbines are to be built and no in pact data for this is shown as well as the lapwings, you also have snipe red shank and oyster catchers breeding on these Meadows along with meadow pipit and Sky larks.
Also no mention is made about marsh harriers that do hunt over parts of this site during summer and have nested not far from this site and are most often seen over the dry reed beds to the west this part of the site is described as insignificant in the report and is were most of the turbines are planed.
These dry reed beds are an excellent future breeding site for marsh harriers if do start to increase in Cheshire and home to many species of small birds none of which are included in this survey.
Will be interesting if Rossy dos get info on surveys done on scout moor to see how these surveys were conducted.
It is almost certain that the frodsham wind farm will get to go ahead as it seems there are no longer any major objectors the RSPB are no, longer objecting according to locals, due to peel holdings making some minor changes to there plans and the promise to build a new scrape for the wading birds if this is the case they have affectively been brought off by peel holdings MIKE | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
