harris hawk spotted - perhaps lost?

I saw a harris hawk today perched on a road sign. The road is surrounded by open fields and I could see no sign of anyone flying the bird. The location was between Cottingham and Raywell in East Yorkshire. Not sure what to do?

report it to your local police /rspca as there will be a falconer looking for it

I would also report it to the IBR (independent bird register)'s lost/found section Falconry equipment - falconry equipment online - cheap bird vitamins

Many falconers refer to this site for bird of prey related things, so it is definitely worth checking there.

Having said that, the number of people who keep Harris hawks because they are a "good beginners bird", I wouldn't be at all surprised to discover there are a large amount of escapee hawks living wild across the uk!
