Knot a bad picture - in fact a very good one. What sort of kit were you using and how close were you.

I haven't got a clue - I have come to the conclusion that you need ESP to tell certain waders apart!

Take Johnny Allan's site, Dip or Gory. Why oh why was he showing a Dunlin as his star bird on his home page? Yes I know now!!! Infuriatingly difficult.

Just took a look and thought "what Dunlin?"

The features that help tell the different species apart are just a little bit more subtle than in some other bird families (though more obvious than some warblers

) - you just have to learn which features you need to look for.

...oh yes, ESP also helps somewhat!
