The Big Year - a film

For those who have read The Big Year by Mark Obmascik, you might like to know that Hollywood is making a film based loosely on the book. Can't say that I hold out much hope of it being a credible version. This is a brief review from Birdwatch magazine.

"Here's the official trailer for the Hollywood movie The Big Year, based on the 1998 book of the same name about yearlisting in North America. You'd almost have to guess it was about birding, so thin are the references as Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson goofball about to the amusement of their wives. It doesn't look immediately faithful to Mark Obmascik's classic read, but I'll reserve judgement until it goes on release."

I've read the book with the eyes of a birder who knows all to well the emotions the three guys go through. Have to say that I have never found Steve Martin remotely funny and the other two only just so. The book as I recall is hardly side-splitting but is a rollercoaster of emotions.

Let's see what Hollywood make of it.
