And also _receives_ the same "helluva wallop"! I would think that a bird indulging in that sort of activity stands to get injured at least as badly as its target. Bird bones are very strong _in_proportion_to_their_weight_, but surely can't be compared to the equivalent size mammalian bone (otherwise evolution would ensure that we all had lightweight thin-walled bones like birds).

Jim - They do it whatever the books may say. Big raptorial birds kill mammal prey of many times their own body weight. Perhaps hollow bones are more elastic? Dunno but it happens so you can take your theory and . . . take all the facts into consideration.
