Autumn Redwings

Redwings arrived on Mousehlod Heath Norwich this morning and there has been an increase in Blackbirds too.

Nice. I always look forward to seeing these birds each year.

There was a lot if vis mis from dawn until 9am mainly Lapwings, Golden plover and Thrushes. It was a perfect night for migration it seems.
The only other place I know for great vis mis is Hampstead Heath in London, there is a big following there.

Looks as though few migants may have been crossing north sea this week,
just been looking at north west bird reports and fieldfares reported from leasowe merseyside today!

I said to Mrs Woodman tonight above Grasmere in Greenhead Ghyll, "Look at that flock of about ten or twelve Redwings - they're early" as they flew into some large conifers at dusk presumably to roost.

Vis mig is when you watch diurnal migration from a high point as migrants pass overhead sometimes at great height

You don't have to be at a high point, though that often helps. You could be watching from a headland close to sea level or even in your own garden.
