went through the entire RSPB a-z and nothing springs to mind someone else had suggested the reed bunting but I had them previously in very cold weather and it's not them was wondering if perhaps this was the alarm call of two parent birds with youngsters in the vicinity. I know both the blackbird and thush have 'piping' alarm calls but not this three note call
typically, haven't seen or heard them for a couple of days
hi tc
could draw it if it was closer - eyesight's terrible though it perches on a tree about 60 ft away and thity high
hi valley
we do have green woodpeckers in the village but cannot find a recording of the young bird's sound will try to get this and compare but they do seem small for what I've seen |

Too 'chirpy' for this bird and we don't get yellowhammers till springtime (always after the RSPB survey). I only had two in my garden at this year compared with a flock of 30 upwards in other years which is really sad. They are ground feeders and there ar a lot of cats about (mine inlcuded) but that wouldn't account for such a decrease in numbers. Their Scots name is Yellow-yite
Will trawl through that site, TC Love your N Austrian anthem too. |

have tried that too - it's more musical than the three straight notes and I'm sure that it's a bit small though I see warnings on other posts suggesting that the eye often exaggerates the size of birds. Going very much by the flight too
will let you know when (if) I can get this identified. |

| | | Re: ID bird? Hi shrike and thanks all who tried to solve the mystery of the whee-o-whee birds
They have disappeared, which makes me think they were summer visitors. Hope they come back next year. However, when one goes ... had a stunning pied woodpecker for all of thirty seconds in my back garden. Makes you feel privileged when birds like that decide to pay you a visit, however briefly. |
