| | | Re: Birds for ID please I certainly agree with aeshna5's last four. I'm not sure about No 1 as the bill looks a little small but that could be down to the angle of the head. Probably is Dunlin.

| | | Re: Birds for ID please A Dunlin, apart from looking more portly, ought to be showing some remnants of the summer black belly at this time of year. Both of the top two shots could be Little Stint but these are most easily confused with Sanderling in the summer. I'd need sharper pictures before committing to either. |

| | | Re: Birds for ID please Non breeding and Juvenile / 1st winter birds don't have the black belly and there have been a few non black belly Dunlin here in the Midlands the last two weeks so that is not an absolute pointer to look at.

when faced with a bird that might be a dunlin we really should be asking why is this bird not a dunlin. believe me i went through so many dunlin earlier on in the year looking for a broad billed sandpiper, my sheep now count dunlin in order to get to sleep of an evening.
another thing i learned is dunlin are incredibly variable. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
