| | | Buzzard Calling In Flight Hi;
I live in Hampshire and in a small patch of woodland nearby have at least one Buzzard. This summer I have often see it flying in and out of the woodland across the field and at times have seen several others soaring on the thermals.
I'm pretty sure its a Buzzard as I managed to catch a close up glimpse of it on a fence.
For the last month or so I have more often hear it before I see it as it seems to be constantly calling. Is this behavior normal?
I did a search on you tube and the call is just like this one: Male Buzzard calling - YouTube |

| | | Re: Buzzard Calling In Flight Juvie Buzzards can be very vocal in flight and produce a squeakier, higher pitched version of the adult "mew" call. |

| | | Re: Buzzard Calling In Flight Thanks for the replies, so it must be a young one that was hatched locally, pity I won't be here next spring to look out for the nesting pair. |

| | | Re: Buzzard Calling In Flight We have literally dozens of Buzzards around the farm here in Snowdonia. And generally they are most vocal when alone, obviously making contact-calls. When in large groups of 10-15 or more, they are generally silent. But one's or two's and they will often call constantly.
Such an evocative call.

| | | Re: Buzzard Calling In Flight Probably this years young, who have left the nest now, but still maintain contact with their parents and siblings.
We have a juvenile here at the moment, from this year's nest. She (its huge already so we think a female), was on our fence at 5.00am shouting her head off this morning. Then later, out in our field walking around (they look quite comical on the ground), picking up worms after a downpour. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
