| | | Bird seed storage I hope I'm posting this in an appropriate place..
I'm looking into buying one or more metal containers to store my bird seed in so the sacks are out of the house and my husband stops tutting at them
I've seen this Gardman bin in lots of differnt places: Gardman Storage Bin for Wild Bird Feed - 25L Capacity but am concerned with the fact that the lid does not overhang the edges of the bin itself and, therefore, may not be fully watertight.
There are a few galvanised stell bins I have seen - such as this one from B&Q: http://tinyurl.com/metalbin - but would have to place a brick or similar on top to stop the lid blowing off during windy weather.
So, my reason for posting is this - what do you use to store your seed in and what would you recommend?
I'm looking for bins to hold at around 13-15kg of seed at least. This should be around a 25l capacity.
Thanks in advance for any help!

| | | Re: Bird seed storage I use the ordinary black plastic bins. The lids overlap and are close fitting, so they won't blow off.

| | | Re: Bird seed storage What about a nappy bucket with a cover and handle? These lids fit very tightly usually. I use the bin similar to these which our council kindly provided for food waste!

Small barrels £7.20 inc. vat + delivery

| | | Re: Bird seed storage All the above are ideal but why not try the containers found in most supermarkets as well as most d.i.y outlets. My missus uses them for her pony-nuts etc and they're stackable and come in a multitude of shapes and sizes. She uses a scoop that came from a washing powder box but a cup or mug does the same job. I use something similar for my bird stuff but on a slightly smaller scale.
Welcome to WAB.

Small barrels £7.20 inc. vat + delivery | I tried something similar a few years ago. Did you have any bother with the after-smell? Mind you, mine were scavenged and yours may have been professionally sanitised.
p.s Sorry, scrub round my previous.(pun intended) I should've had a proper look before commenting. That re-cycling set-up looks too professional to leave any evidence of previous use.

| | | Re: Bird seed storage Scavenged council black bins - usually found dumped with damaged wheels or wheels missing - if not dirty! They are then kept in the shed so not outdoors where I think dampness might get in in?

Pauline | Hi you. Nice to see you 'up & at 'em' again. Stay well, Jack.

Cut the bottom off at an angle from a supermarket 1 litre plastic milk container, with the handle at the top.
